Why Family Time Matters More Than Business Goals

This week's episode with Helen is a good one. She is such a bad ass business owner and I feel fortunate to get to talk with her whenever I want! :)

I get to travel this month with my husbands family in Ireland. My mother in law turned 80 in April so we decided to take her to Ireland for a 10 day trip to celebrate.

It is an interesting conversation to have with people when we say there are 8 of us going to Ireland for 10 days. I think the one that stands out most to me is thinking of the last time my mother in law had her children in one place for a 10 day span. The math I am doing says that her oldest was out of high school 38 years ago, which is likely means 38 years ago when she had that much time with all of her children in one place for more than a few days.

That is WILD to me.

Why am I blathering on about this?

The moments are now. The present is what matters the most because soon it'll be a time where you no longer get your family in one space for more than a couple days (tops).

SO many people get into business to spend more time with their kids. They want the freedom to spend their time however they want. I see time and time again though that their business takes them away from their family over and over again. We obsess over to do's and bottom lines and what's next, but don't put family above the business in a lot of circumstances.

If you are reading this and have a business, put your family first this week and see how it feels. Put your phone down and watch the game or help with the homework. Stand in the yard and feel the grass under your feet.

Do something that makes you feel alive and not chasing the next thing or obsessing over the challenges in your business.
